Poco Filter FAQ - Order of execution

Q: What order are the filters executed in and how do I control it?

A: Filters are executed in the order in which they appear in the filter window (Tools->Filters). To re-order the list simply click on a filter and drag it to a new location.

If a filter cancels message processing (the action is set to "Stop processing") then no other filter or script will act on that message. This also applies if the filter deletes a message or moves it to another mailbox, no subsequent filter or script will act on it.

Notes:

  • In Poco 2.1 filters are always run before any scripts (see this article for instructions on how to run a script before a filter).
  • In Poco 2.5 you can sort the filters by pressing the labels at the top of the filter window. This temporarily changes the order to help you inspect your filters. If you sort the filters and then change the order the sort is removed (however the item you moved is moved in the resulting list).
