Use the following steps, in order:
- "Delete" the messages you do not want from the mailbox you are importing. Netscape moves them to the "Trash" folder..
- Next, go to "File -> Empty Trash On...". That actually deletes the message and erases the JAVA pointers to the message (these are used to "move messages" within Netscape - so even if you move a message to the "Trash" - it's really not gone, as the pointers to your original mailbox are retained).
- Next, go to "File ->Compact Folders". That will compress the mailboxes (including the TRASH folder) and resort the remaining messages...
Note: A user reported that this didn't work, instead they used the
"Compact Folder" button found on the "Folder Properties" from the "Edit" menu.
- Finally - import the mailbox(es). The old messages should not appear.
