Poco Problems FAQ - Poco looping when retrieving a message

Q: I got a web page forwarded from a friend that not only did not display the links or graphics but it evidently did not acknowledge as received because it was in my POCO mail box over 700 times. The only way to stop this loop was to use my old e-mail program to check my mail it came through fine and all the links worked.

Questions:

Can POCO display web pages? Specifically graphics and links. The text on the page came through fine albeit > 700 times.

By the way I have the button in "TOOLS>OPTIONS>SETTINGS>PROGRAMS>MISC> "Show at images and text documents in-line" checked.

A: Yes, Poco can display "Web pages" (actually formatted or styled email).

Although I could be wrong it sounds like you connection was timing out before downloading all the images. Since the text appears correctly the problem isn't with invalid html which can sometimes cause Poco not to display the message (this doesn't happen frequently but there is one service that continually sends me invalid html. If I need to view it I use the "View raw message" option - right click in the body and select the option from the popup menu).

There is a way to delete the mail from the server to prevent it's continual looping on the download. You need to delete that message directly from the server. To do this:

  1. From the Poco "EMail" menu select "View Mail on Server"
  2. Select the appropriate account
  3. Press "Connect"
  4. Right click on the offending mesage
  5. Select "Mark to delete"
  6. Press "Process"
  7. Close the "View Mail on Server" window.
Note: Another potential cause of messages being left on the server is the execution of a script that contains errors. Such a script would have to be configured to run against incoming messages. It is unlikely you have such a script configured.
