Poco Mail Composition FAQ - Mailing lists

Q: How can I use Poco to keep mailing lists of friends? I want o keep multiple lists for various purposes.

A: Poco does support mailing lists, you need to create separate entries in your "Friends" address book for each list you want to maintain. It doesn't matter what you put in the nick and name fields (but I would suggest using something meaningful) the important part is how you structure the "E-Mail" field, it should contain the nickname(s) of the people in the address book whose names you want on the list.

For example, I am the webmaster for a local hiking club. I use Poco to maintain lists of member email addresses. Within the hiking club address book I have a couple of lists, one for those members who enjoy backpacking, another for executive members. The "E-Mail:" field for the "backpackers" list contains the following:

aaron, bob, brian, ... Where "aaron", "bob" and "brian" are all nicknames for people who have their addresses recorded in the book. While you can use a person's email address in a list I find it better to use the person's nickname as if they change email addresses all I have to do is update their main entry. Another great feature of the lists in Poco is the ability to nest the lists, a list nickname can be an entry in a list and Poco will expand the names from that list when you go to send an email.
