Poco Addresses FAQ - How do you rename an address book?

Q: Is there an easy way to rename address books? For instance, the default is simply called "address". Can I rename this without editing the .ini file? Also, what if I create an address book with many entries and want to change the name later, how would I do this? If I have to edit the .ini file, is there more than one instance that I have to change? I suppose I could play around with it (and I will) but figured I'd ask here also.

A: To my knowledge this is the first time this question has been asked. Unfortunately there is no way short of editing the .ini files to accomplish this. The following assumes you have not setup poco to run with multiple users.

To edit the files:

  1. Shut down Poco. If you normally minimize it to the system tray kill it from there as well. If you are using PocoBot to check for new mail then suspend it.
  2. Open "My computer" and navigate to the Poco folder.
  3. Locate the "poco.ini" file and make a backup of it.
  4. Open the "poco.ini" file in NotePad and locate the "Addresses=" line.
  5. Change the name of the address book(s) you want to change.
  6. Check the "CurrentAddressBook=" line. If the address book listed corresponds to one of those you changed in step 5 then change it as well.
  7. Close and save the "poco.ini" file.
  8. Open the "Address" folder beneath your main Poco folder.
  9. Locate and rename the address book files (also stored as .ini files).
  10. Close "My computer" and launch Poco.
