Poco Address FAQ - How do I keep the addresses secret when using mailing lists?

Q: I have setup a group with 400 entries. I wish to mail all of them but when I create new email with groups it adds all address into the TO field.

Is there a way to hide all these addresses and just have groups name so recipients don't see everyone’s email address.

A: Poco provides many ways of skinning this cat:
  1. Instead of putting the group into the "To" field put it into the "BCC" field. You will have to put something into the "To" field, it doesn't have to be a valid email address though (some servers won't accept mail without it. They're few and far between, but they do exist.)
  2. You can use Poco's "split message" capability to split messages when you send them. Using this facility you can have poco split the message into a number of distinct individual messages when you send it. From the "Message" menu in the compose window select "Split on Send/Queue". When you send (or queue) the message Poco will display the "Many Recipients" window. This contains a "Create multiple messages with" ... "recipients per message". Change this number to "1" and each person in the To field will receive their own individual copy. The drawback here is that you will have multiple copies of the message logged in your out box.
  3. You can use the "Send_to_all_address_booK" script. This would send the message to everyone in one of your address books (perhaps not what you wanted).
  4. A custom script could be written to do this.
